LEDMax is a trichromator that enables the estimation of an individual observer’s color matching functions using Maxwell’s matching method. It includes 18 LED light channels from which different triplets are selected and matched by the observer to a white standard light. From these matches, the system can estimate the observer’s personal LMS cone fundamentals and XYZ color matching functions.

LEDMax is a personalized color matching curve meter launched by THOUSLITE, a trichromator that enables the creation of custom observer color matching functions using the Maxwell method.

The Maxwell method is a color matching experimental method proposed by physicist James Clerk Maxwell and is one of the fundamental experimental methods in color science.
LEDMax uses the Maxwell method by:
• Allowing observers to compare and match the appearance of two colors through a side-by-side hemifield matching setup
• Illuminating each side with two spectrally tunable LED systems
